John Lambe is noted for his high quality items. He was apprenticed to Ebenezer Coker, as was Thomas Chawner. His first recorded mark was 8th February 1774 as a spoon-maker although it is assumed he entered a mark before this which will have been recorded in the missing registers. His latest mark was entered in 17th October 1791 as a plate-worker.

There are many maker’s marks of “IL” so it is not always easy to be sure of John Lambe’s work however he was a prolific maker and there are many sugar tongs by John Lambe.
