This pair of sugar tongs are an early example of bright cut tongs. I have tentatively dated these as c1778 because of the shape of the maker's mark. This mark was registered early, a large "I" & "L" with a pellet between and the tops of the two letters joined together, (Grimwade 1472 - registered on 8th February 1774).
