Henry Nutting was apprenticed to Charles
Wright and then worked for Thomas Chawner. He registered his first mark on 9th
April 1796. On 17th June 1808 he registered a mark with Robert Hennell II and
then alone again on 3rd October 1809.
It can be very difficult, if not impossible to detect the difference between
makers marks belonging to Napthali Hart, Henry Nutting or Hannah Northcote. I
have attempted to disentagle them a little, as follows:
Anything
dated 1796/1797 will be Henry Nutting
Anything dated 1798 to 1811 will be
Hannah Northcote or Henry Nutting
Anything dated after 1812 could be any
of the three
Hannah Northcote died in 1831 and Napthali Hart died
in 1858
The first pair of tongs, dated 1795/96 will definitely be by Henry Nutting. The second pair, dated 1798/99 could also be by Hannah Northcote.
