Jonathan Mappin registered one mark on 7^th December 1775, as a plate-worker. He had registered a mark with William Barrick on 27^th June of that same year. We then do not see another Mappin mark registered until 1833 when Joseph Mappin & son registered their mark, the beginning of the great Mappin & Webb company of jewellers and silver-smiths.
