John Langlands I and John Robertson I were working together from 1778 to 1795 although between 1793 and 1795 the business was in Margaret Langlands’ name as John Langlands died in 1793. Langlands & Robertson are very well known Newcastle makers and they produced a great deal of silver during their period together. Their sugar tongs are all bright cut and are very well engraved making them very difficult to differentiate with good London makers of the period. They registered several different maker’s marks in 1778 and 1780 and seemed to used any of them at ay time so sugar tongs cannot be dated by their maker’s mark alone.
