Montrose is on the East coast of Scotland, about half way between Dundee & Aberdeen. Sugar tongs by Montrose makers are rare. The mark used was a rose, usually of 5 petals. Benjamin Lumsden's rose had 8 petals. Peter Lambert (from 1833) sometimes used a thistle and the letter M. The roses looked very different depending on the maker, sometimes looking more like a sun. James Sturrock used a mitre. |
