This a lovely pair of bright cut tongs. There are two curious features about them, firstly the monogram "A" and "H" punched in the inside of the bowls. This is highly unusual, not something I have seen on any other tongs. The second is the double dot beside the hallmark. This is particularly interesting as it is also seen on another pair of William Sumner tongs, see here. Is this a journeyman's mark? It would certainly seem likely as it is only seen with this maker. It is definitely strange as journeyman's marks are more normally found punched beside the maker's mark. They are dated between 1786 and 1790.
