Solomon Hougham was Charles Hougham's brother and worked with him until Charles died on 18th January 1793. Solomon then entered his own mark on 1st February 1793. Solomon Hougham’s sugar tongs date from 1793 to 1817, so we would expect to see the full range of silver sugar tongs of this period from him. In looking at his sugar tongs, we see the same pattern as with all makers of this time. The earlier sugar tongs are all bright cut, gradually changing until all the later tongs are plain. Solomon Hougham registered a mark with Solomon Royes & John East Dix on 13th September 1817. Both of these had been Solomon Hougham's apprentices. This was just 11 months before he died.
