According to Jackson's, Edward Sawyer's name was entered in the Goldsmith's register in Birmingham in 1773, when the Assay Office first opened. He is perhaps the most well known of the Birmingham Goldsmiths of this time, certainly as far as antique Georgian silver sugar tongs are concerned, (Jackson's refers to "Pierced Sugar-tongs") as his reference for the mark he shows.
