These tongs are superb. It is very rare to see tongs that are bright
cut on the inside as well as the outside of the arms. This "extra"
engraving gives the tongs a special look that can only be achieved trough
this extra engraving. The bowls have a twirling engraved pattern to
the outside only. There is no maker's mark, just the Lion Passant.
I have dated them at c1780 There can also be seen just the vestiges of
an armorial monogram to the bow. Clearly these tongs were once owned
by an important family. A very rare pair of tongs and an absolute
