William Sumner I & Richard Crossley entered their first mark together on 1st May 1775 and other marks up to 5th April 1782 on which date Richard Crossley entered a mark on his own. They were both part of the famous Chawner company. Richard Crossley is a very well known maker and made a lot of flatware in his own right. Silver sugar tongs by Crossley and Sumner are particularly attractive, being narrow, slightly smaller than later tongs and quite delicate in appearance.
