This pair of tongs is dated c1780 - 1784. The hallmark and maker's marks are in the bowls as appears to be the case with all of these William Burch tongs made prior to 1784. The bowls are a little unusual as they have the engraving cut into them with simple lines rather than a more normal bright cut engraved style.
