William Bateman I was Hester Bateman's grandson, Jonathan and Ann's son. His first mark entered alone was on 15th February 1815. William was interesting in that he sold the Bateman family business in around 1840, having entered the gas business about 1820. William Bateman II, (his son), entered his mark in 1827 so it is reasonable to assume that William Bateman I was working until then.
