This pair of tongs are very special. The arms are at right angles to the body This is seen more often with cast tongs, or sometimes bright cut tongs but rarely on plain tongs. This pair are plain and have a delightful monogram of a cockerel. They are dated 1797/98 and because of the clipped duty mark, this will be after 6th July 1797 when duty was increased.
