This pair of tong is the most common Bateman style of tongs. All of the partnerships made tongs in this "classical" fluted style (except perhaps Hester). This particular pair is unusual in that the Assay Office have struck the hallmark on top of the maker's mark. This is very un-common. It just demonstrates that perhaps the Assay Office were not always perfect!
