These tongs are a pair of cast tongs made in three parts, with the two arms soldered onto the bow. There is a lovely shell pattern to the tops of the arms. This is very early to see a shell pattern, preceding the more standard shell pattern tongs by 20 years or more. The bow shows a clear repair mark. I have dated these tongs at around 1775.
