The name Chawner is very famous. In fact Henry was Thomas Chawner’s son. Thomas Chawner was apprenticed to the great Ebenezer Coker. Henry entered his first mark on 11th November 1786. He worked alone until he entered a mark in partnership with John Emes on 27th August 1796. Henry Chawner was not linked to the Chawner company. These sugar tongs are unusually long, nearly 6 inches, are bright cut, but with plain bowls, dated 1794/95. Click on any picture to enlarge |
