This is a pair of plain, flared tongs. These were much more common with the later Bateman partnerships, however clearly Hester did make some. These are interesting in that they have an elaborate monogram on the bow, that looks like "WAM" but the "W" is not quite centered with the other two letters. They also have a betrothal or marriage monogram "S over RE" which has been engraved right underneath the bow. These tongs look like they had at least two owners!!
