This page gives some examples of Hester Bateman silver sugar tongs covering the period up to 1st December 1784. This is before the duty mark was introduced, which means all tongs of this period will be marked with the Lion Passant and maker's mark only. The maker's mark is not quite identical on all the tongs, but then Hester did use rather a lot of different marks!
