This pair is very plain, with no distinguishing features although they do have an interesting monogram of two letters over two letters which is quite unusual. The hallmark on these tongs is very interesting. The assay office appear to have used a smaller duty mark than is normal, probabaly one intended for smaller items. The Lion has also been overstruck, as if it had not been struck properly the first time. They are dated 1811/12. Click on any picture to enlarge |
