These are a pair of completely plain sugar tongs but have fascinating hexagonal shaped bowsl. Bowls of this style are not completely unknown but are very rare.

Both William Welch and Joseph Hicks made tongs with hexagonal bowls but in both cases they were fiddle pattern tongs.

 The tongs have a chevron journeyman's mark and are dated 1817/18.
