James Douglas registered a mark at the Edinburgh Assay office in 1785. James Douglas also registered a mark as a Dundee silversmith in 1795. I don't know whether these were one and the same. These tongs can be clearly dated to 1785/86, but I am not sure of the maker.

They are a delightful pair of bright cut tongs with a superb flower pattern to the tops of the arms such as I have never seen before.
