The next pair is also bright cut. Again, they are flared, but with a slightly less pronounced flare. They also have a concave bow. This time they are marked with the thistle rather than the three castles and because of the duty mark they must be dated after 1786. I have therefore dated them as c1790. This pair has the maker’s mark punched on one arm and the hallmark on the other. This is much more normal for Scottish sugar tongs.
