This maker's mark is very difficult to be sure of. John Law did not register a mark until 26th August 1790, and his mark has a pellet between the "I" and "L". These tongs are clearly dated 1784 which makes it hard to suggest that John Law was the maker. Another possibility is Thomas Lamborn. Although his mark is "TL" it could be that the maker's mark has not been struck very well and the top part of the "T" is missing. One other vague possibility is John Love but there is no record of him having registered a mark on his own. The maker of these dilightful pierced tongs will have to remain a mystery.
