Richard Clark has a mark recorded in Jackson’s dated 1791/92. Jackson indicates that Richard Clark's apprenticeship started in 1760 and that he was made free in 1773. He died in 1797. These tongs are absolutely delightful. They are only just 5ins long and have cut-in shoulders with small circular bowls. They have a tiny engraved pattern around the edges of the arms and bowls. Sugar tongs by this maker are very rare and these are lovely to behold. The maker's mark appears slightly "off-centre". This is just the angle of the picture. These tongs are dated c1780.
