John Jobson & James
Hetherington registered a mark on 11th January 1771. They are
known to have sent work for assay between 22nd January 1771 and
13th July 1773. The partnership was dissolved by 31st
July 1773 when it was reported as such. Their work can therefore be
accurately dated to between those two dates. These tongs are a good example
of early work, with just a simple feather edge and fan shaped bowls. The
workmanship is not wonderful, just a simple strip of silver, made concave
for strength and bent to shape.
