This pair of tongs is in the standard Scottish fiddle pattern. With the Scottish fiddle pattern, the arms tend to be concave and the top part of the arm is longer than that of English fiddle pattern, As with many other Scottish sugar tongs, they are somewhat larger than similar English work, being well over 6 inches long and weighing a hefty 49 grams. The tongs have full Aberdeen marks alongside the Edinburgh hallmarks for 1849/50, with Queen Victoria's bust as the duty mark. George Sangster is recorded as being active from 1839 to 1881.
