William Goslee registered his first mark as a small-worker on 15th March 1771. He then registered other marks as a buckle-maker in 1778 and 1784. This particular mark is difficult to be sure of. It could also be that of William Godfrey who registered a mark as a small-worker on 8th January 1772. The mark “WG” can very easily be confused with that of “WC”. These tongs are fascinating in that we see two pairs of exactly identical tongs. This is not unknown, especially with cast tongs as the mould will have been re-usable.
