These silver sugar tongs are gilt. Gilding was quite rare and comprises adding a very thin layer of gold to the
silver sugar tongs. Very often this gilding is rubbed very thin or patchy
but this pair are in excellent condition. The style of the tongs is fairly
standard cast style but the gilding is very special.
