These tongs are a very common Bateman style. They are very typically Bateman tongs and yet are marked with the George Gray maker's mark. A careful examination of the maker's mark shows that it is over-struck on top of another mark. Given the date of the tongs (1810/11) this will be Peter & William Bateman's mark.
