John Younge and Co. registered their mark on April 5th 1779. There were four different marks registered. IYCo in an oval cartouche, YG&H in an oval upside down triangle, IY in a simple rectangular cartouche and the mark on these tongs YG&H in an rectangular cartouche.

Their names were actually John Trevers Younge, Edmund Greaves and William Hoyland.

This is a superb pair of early tongs by John Younge & Co. They are of typical Sheffield early style with some very light bright cut engraving on pierced arms. They are dated 1785/86 and they have the incuse duty mark.
