Thomas Kennedy was a Kilmarnock maker with a mark registered in Glasgow. These tongs are very typically Scottish. They are fiddle pattern, with a very long top half of the arms. They have pointed shell bowls and are of a concave construction. As with most Scottish sugar tongs, they are marked towards the bottom of the arms. This pair of tongs is dated 1828, (strictly speaking out of the date range for this web-site). They have a lovely clear set of Glasgow hallmarks. Notice how the duty mark is struck separately from the other hallmarks. Click on any picture to enlarge |
