We cannot be certain who these tongs are by, however they are likely to be by James Lumsden of Glasgow. James Lumsden was working between 1784 and 1821 and submitted numerous items to Edinburgh for assay during that time. Many thanks to Robert wilson for this information.

The tongs are a pair of typical Scottish style tongs and are particularly special in that they are marked with the incuse duty mark, dating them clearly between 1785 and 1786.
