James Berry is recorded in Jackson's as having been working between 1836 and 1857. Jackson also shows a mark from a pair of fiddle pattern sugar tongs dated c1840. These tongs are also plain fiddle pattern tongs. The maker's mark is not very clear, but definitely looks like "IB". The Aberdeen marks are very clear. Sadly the tongs have an ugly repair under the bow. This can just about be seen from the picture of the monogram. The tongs are marked at the bottom of the arms with the same mark on each arm. Given that they are plain fiddle pattern tongs it is difficult to date them exactly, but c1840 would be reasonable although they could be earlier.

Many Thanks to Michael for pointing out that these tongs could well be "IR" for James Rettie, (c1845 - 1855)
